These sourdough waffles are the right amount of soft, sweet, and satisfying that is perfect for any morning. It’s perfect for a quick morning breakfast or to save for an afternoon snack. Pair it with some fruit and seeds and you have yourself a tasty meal!
I’m going to be honest here and let you know that I am a very busy person. More busy than I would want to be at the moment, but life sometimes is that way and that’s okay.
I’m saying all this to tell you this is why I NEED these sourdough waffles in my life because they are so easy and delicious.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind the typical breakfast of eggs or a Kefir smoothie in the morning, but sometimes I’m craving something a little more like waffles.
These waffles are easy, quick to cook, and can store for the next couple days to grab for a quick breakfast or even a snack.
WHY CHOOSE SOURDOUGH
Sourdough has been made for hundreds of years and there is a reason. It contains naturally occurring bacteria which is very beneficial for our guts. There are many people who suffer from gluten issues since our bodies don’t digest phytic acid very well. Sourdough bread ceases the phytic acid making it easier to digest. Therefore, many people that suffer from gluten issues can more than likely consume sourdough bread (as long as it is signed off by a doctor).
Overall, it’s super beneficial for our guts and it tastes amazing!

SUPPLIES YOU WILL NEED
INGREDIENTS YOU WILL NEED
3 Cups Bread Flour
1 Cup Starter
1 Cup Milk
1 TBSP Cinnamon
1 tsp Vanilla
Spray Butter
Extra milk for next day if the dough is stiff.
HOW TO MAKE SOURDOUGH WAFFLES
- You want to make sure you have fed your starter. Once you have your starter ready for the waffles, set it to the side.
2. Grab a mixing bowl and add 3 cups of bread flour to it.
3. Add in the starter, milk cinnamon, and vanilla. Use a wooden spoon to stir until it is fully mixed together. Once it is all mixed together, put a thin cloth over it and let it rise for 12 hours. (I will usually do this at night so then the next morning I can make fresh waffles or vice versa).
4. After 12 hours, check the doughs consistency. If it seems to be a little thick, you can add extra milk to make it thinner if you would like.
5. Spray the waffle maker with spray butter. Plug it in and wait for it to warm up (the waffle maker I have does not have a turn on button; you simply plug it in and it turns on manually).
6. Once the waffle maker is heated, add about 1/2 cup of batter to the pan. You can add more or take away dependent upon how thick you want your waffles.
7. Once the batter is fully cooked through (about 2 minutes) you now have WAFFLES.
And now you have thick, delicious, soft waffles for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a snack!
TOPPINGS
There is absolutely nothing wrong with good ole’ local maple syrup, but I do love to spice these waffles up! There are so many things that you can put on top of your waffles that will add that extra flavor to them:
Fruit
Dried Fruit
Nuts
Seeds
Local Honey
Farm Fresh Butter
Whip Cream
Local Syrup or Homemade Syrup
Chocolate Chips
HOW TO ADD MORE NUTRITION TO YOUR WAFFLES
Along with the toppings, you can add more nutrition to your sourdough waffles. You can definitely add a ton of nutrition if you add some of the toppings listed above, but you can also add some within the waffles.
I love to add blueberries, strawberries, and apples as the main fruit for our waffles. My favorite thing to top any kind of waffle with is pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, and walnuts. Overall, the fruit, nuts, and seeds are ultimately going to add nutrition to your waffles and satisfying that hunger!
HOW LONG WILL THE SOURDOUGH WAFFLES LAST
The sourdough waffles will last up to 4-5 days as long as they are kept where much air does not touch them. I will usually warm them up on a cast iron skillet with some butter to make them soft again when they hit around day 3.
